Margaret Blake
Child, Parent and Family Counsellor, SW003738
I am a professionally qualified social work therapist with 35 years’ experience of providing supportive intervention to parents and their children in CAMHS, clinical settings and community settings.
I work therapeutically with children, teenagers and their parents to resolve difficulties they are encountering in their lives. I understand parents as being the experts on their child/children and, therefore, holding the solutions to their difficulties. I have considerable experience of working in the areas of ADHD and autism. I strive to a neuro-affirmative practice.
The more prevalent issues parents bring to me, are children/teenagers with:
• High stress, anxiety, emotional and psychological distress.
• School related stress issues and school refusal.
• Behavioural, challenging and high conflict issues.
• Social and communication difficulties.
• Challenges with neurodiversity issues, such as autism and ADHD.
Parents also seek support from me with regard to:
• Parenting difficulties and dynamics.
• Sibling and family relationships.
• Navigating assessment through public services.
I use techniques from Systemic Therapy, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, and Mindfulness Practice.
I am a Registered Circle of Security Facilitator and I have completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course, MA. I am a member of the IASW and I have statutory registration with CORU, SW003738. I continue to improve my knowledge and skills through regular Continuing Professional Development and Professional Supervision.
